Climate change is increasingly recognized as an important business issue, but one that owners and executives are only just beginning to understand. Climate change poses a range of new risks and market disruptions, but also new opportunities in a low carbon economy.
This seminar will introduce the topic of climate change from the perspective of the business owner. It will review some basic information to understand both current and future impacts of climate change in the Manitoban and Canadian context.
Highlighting recent work undertaken by the Winnipeg-based International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC), attendees will be introduced to the Climate Action Toolkit for Manitoba Business. This is an information resource to guide business leaders in taking climate action, which will help reduce carbon emissions, build resiliency, and identify possible new markets and opportunities.
The seminar will also feature a panel discussion with the local company Telpay to share information about their climate action work.
Attendee will learn the following:
1. Introduction to the topic of climate change from the perspective of the business owner, to understand current and future impacts of climate change.
2. Introduction to the Climate Action Toolkit for Manitoba Business that will provide practical information, checklists, and links to additional information resources to help companies develop their own climate action plans.
3. Hear from a local Winnipeg company, Telpay, on their approach to climate action.
