Takin’ It to the Streets: Safe Food, Good Eats

Take advantage of Manitoba’s summer with a seasonal business such as a food truck or selling food products at a farmers’ market. Many people are interested in the possibilities that come from creating and operating a seasonal food business with locally grown and prepared products, yet are unsure of the health requirements to get there.
Attendees will learn the following:
1. General importance of food safety and the role of the Health Protection Unit
2. A better understanding of the process to obtain health approval to sell or serve food to the public, with a specific focus on seasonal food businesses
3. Review of various guidelines and requirements relating to farmers’ markets, mobile food service establishments, food pushcarts, food sampling and online food sales
Natalie Lowdon, B.Sc., BEH, CPHI(C) and Julie Swanlund, B.H.Ecol (FN), CPHI(C), are Certified Public Health Inspectors and Acting Regional Managers for the Winnipeg Region Health Protection Unit within Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living. They look forward to the opportunity to educate and answer questions related to food safety and regulatory requirements for public health protection.
