Up in Smoke? Impact of Legalization of Cannabis in the Workplace

Recreational cannabis has now been legalized, and workplaces have to take steps to ensure that they are putting appropriate measures in place to address this new reality. This seminar will discuss the current state of the law as it relates to legalization of recreational cannabis, and how recreational use differs from medically prescribed use, and provide practical tips on how to address the safety concerns posed by drug use in the workplace.
NOTE: Please feel free to bring a snack or brown bag lunch to make the most of this session.
Attendees will learn the following:
1. Laws surrounding legal cannabis use
2. Various safety and human rights issues imposed by those using and/or impaired by cannabis and other drugs in the workplace
3. Practical tips to manage the risks posed by use/impairment of cannabis in the workplace in a legal way
Jamie Jurczak is a Partner with the law firm Taylor McCaffrey LLP, where she practices as a member of their labour and employment law and civil litigation practice groups.
