Goodness made delicious at Piccola Cucina
A New Ingredient in the Recipe for Success
Piccola Cucina is a woman-owned food manufacturer that creates nutrient-rich, high-quality foods made with simple, clean ingredients.

Minimally processed foods with a holistic approach
The company launched in 2009 by producing Italian-inspired macaroon cookies that are certified gluten-free, dairy-free and almond-based. Since then, Piccola Cucina’s product line continues to expand.
Today, the company offers about 20 delicious and nutritious products, including almond flour pie shells and almond flax wraps, as well as gluten-free pizza crusts, finished pizzas and gluten-free vegan superfood desserts. The popular pizzas and desserts were added to the offerings in 2023 after Piccola Cucina acquired the assets of Judy G Foods Inc.
“All the products are being produced in our HACCP-certified and CFIA federally inspected manufacturing facility,” says owner Pina Romolo. “The business was originally in Calgary and we brought all the production here to Manitoba.”
With a holistic approach, Piccola Cucina produces minimally processed foods from healthy ingredients sourced through sustainable practices. The company further focuses on sustainability by aiming to minimize byproducts, achieve zero food waste, conserve water and energy, and recycle materials from processing and packaging.
Advice for entrepreneurs: the right support is key
Since the business continually evolves, Romolo understands the importance of being flexible and planning ahead while maintaining a commitment to excellence. For other budding entrepreneurs, she recommends undertaking as much research as possible to figure out the best way to move forward. “Get mentors, advisors, a good accountant, a lawyer that can help you navigate,” she suggests. “World Trade Centre Winnipeg has also supported me in a lot of ways.” Looking ahead, Piccola Cucina is cooking up some exciting plans — but Romolo is not ready to share them quite yet. “There’s a lot of growth potential,” she says. “I’m excited for the future.”
