The World Trade Centre Winnipeg and Global Affairs Canada – Trade Commissioner Service are pleased to co-host a Breakfast Information Session on market opportunities under the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with a focus on Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Germany and Netherlands.

Following the market presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about opportunities relevant to their sector and company and to network with in-market Senior Trade Commissioners.

Companies in all sectors are welcome.

Michelle Gartland, Senior Trade Commissioner

Embassy of Canada to Belgium and Luxembourg, Brussels

Michelle leads a team of trade commissioners supporting Canadian companies to access
networks and opportunities in Belgium and Luxembourg. Priority sectors include cleantech and
digital technologies and support is offered across the business development spectrum – trade,
innovation and investment attraction. Born in the U.K., raised in Western/Central Canada and
South Africa; Michelle has spent half of her career in Europe (U.K.) helping Canadian
companies take advantage of strong bilateral ties and free trade agreements. A University of
Guelph graduate with a passion for promoting Canada abroad and helping SMEs connect &
grow.

Michael Willmott, Senior Trade Commissioner

Embassy of Canada to the Kingdom of Denmark, Copenhagen

Michael and his team of trade commissioners help Canadian companies build business and
innovation partnerships in Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland. His previous experience
includes Canada-EU science, technology and innovation cooperation (Brussels), free trade
agreement negotiations (Ottawa) and promoting innovation partnering for Canada in the United
States (Minneapolis). Born in Saskatchewan and raised in Alberta, Michael holds degrees in
Economics and International Relations from the University of Calgary.

Andreas Weichert, Senior Trade Commissioner

Embassy of Canada to Germany, Berlin

Andreas leads a team of trade commissioners in three offices in Germany (Berlin, Düsseldorf
and Munich), supporting Canadian companies in their international business development
activities in the EU’s largest market. Andreas has spent over half his career abroad, serving as
Minister Counsellor in Riyadh and Moscow, as Senior Trade Commissioner in Kazakhstan and
Jordan, and as Canadian Representative to the OSCE Mission to Georgia. Born in Vancouver,
raised in Ontario and British Columbia, Andreas has driven across our great country 14 times,
and loves all its beautiful parts. He holds a BComm (Finance) and MBA from UBC, and studied
in Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Vienna.

Adam Barbolet, Senior Trade Commissioner

Embassy of Canada to the Netherlands, The Hague

Adam is based in the Netherlands – the wealthiest of the top five economies in Europe – where
he and his team of trade commissioners work with Canadian exporters, Dutch investors, and
potential partners from both countries in science, technology and innovation. Prior to moving
to The Hague in 2021, Adam was the Senior Trade Commissioner in Ukraine (2017 to 2021),
and in Kazakhstan with cross accreditation to the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan (2014 to
2017). He holds a BA (political science) from UBC, and an MPA (environmental policy) from
Queen’s.
