THIS PRIVACY POLICY SETS OUT THE MANNER IN WHICH WORLD TRADE CENTRE WINNIPEG INC. MANAGES PERSONAL INFORMATION.  IN ORDER TO USE OUR WEBSITE, CONTENT AND SERVICES, YOU MUST HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD AND AGREED TO THE TERMS OF THIS PRIVACY POLICY.  IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, YOU MAY MAKE NO FURTHER USE OF OUR WEBSITE, CONTENT AND SERVICES.

The World Trade Centre Winnipeg Inc. (“WTC Winnipeg”) is a member of the World Trade Centers Association, the leading international trade network, representing more than 300 World Trade Centres in nearly 100 countries.  WTC Winnipeg provides support to Manitoba companies looking to grow their business in Manitoba and provides services to international companies interested in doing business with Manitoba companies.  The WTC Winnipeg’s trade development team provides a range of services to help companies start, grow, explore new markets, and seek international partnership opportunities (all herein referred to as “Services”).  

As part of the Services, we work with individuals who are event participants.  At WTC Winnipeg, we take our privacy obligations very seriously.  We have established this Privacy Policy in accordance with our obligations under The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).

1.  Personal Information

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information provided to or held by WTC Winnipeg.  “Personal Information” means “information about an identifiable individual”.

Personal information does not include business contact information of business representatives where such information was provided to us for the purposes of facilitating communication with that person in their professional capacity.  Personal information is information concerning individuals only and does not cover corporate or other types of information.

2.  Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

At WTC Winnipeg, we collect only the information necessary to complete a requested Service.  Given the nature of our Services, we work mainly with two (2) main client types:  (i) Event Participants, and (ii) Business Clients. Our purposes for collecting, using and disclosing personal information vary per client type, and as such are set forth in more detail below.

(i) Event Participants:  WTC Winnipeg collects information from participants who are signing up to attend our organized events.  Personal information required may be dependent on the nature of the event but may include without limitation information such as a participant’s name, business title, personal and business email addresses, phone numbers, credit card or other payment information, and dietary restrictions.  

WTC Winnipeg will use this information to process the request, set up and administer an Event Participant’s registration for the subject event and to send out reminders, materials and communications for the event.  Personal information provided will be used only for this purpose unless otherwise required or permitted by law.  Individuals who choose to receive information about WTC Winnipeg will also receive email or other communications from time to time.

WTC Winnipeg will retain your personal information on file for a period of (two) 2 years following completion of the subject event, unless you have subscribed to receive other information from WTC Winnipeg.  If you have subscribed for information concerning WTC Winnipeg, your information will be retained for these purposes until you terminate this Service.

WTC Winnipeg does not disclose, sell or grant third party access to personal information except as set out in this Policy or as required or permitted by law.  Unless required by law, disclosures of information will be made with participant’s consent, again unless required or permitted by law.

(ii) Business Clients:  WTC Winnipeg collects information from clients who visit the WTC Winnipeg either in person, over the telephone, or online. The personal information we collect may include, without limitation, both personal and business information, namely a client’s name, business title, personal and business email addresses, phone numbers, gender, nationality, and language spoken.  

WTC Winnipeg will use this information to establish and administer client records, process client requests, and to carry out requested services and process any payments.  Please note that WTC Winnipeg may assemble information into non-identifiable aggregate information and discloses that aggregate information to funders with participant demographics.  Personal information provided will be used only for the stated purposes, unless permitted by law.  Individuals who choose to receive information about WTC Winnipeg will also receive email or other communications from time to time.

WTC Winnipeg will retain your personal information on file for a period of (two) 2 years from the time your service becomes inactive.  If you have subscribed for information concerning WTC Winnipeg, your information will be retained for these purposes until you terminate this Service.

3. Third Party Service Providers

WTC Winnipeg may use third party service providers in order to carry out or to provide you the Services, and we may transfer your personal information to these third parties strictly for this purpose. These third parties provide Services to WTC Winnipeg and are prohibited by contract from using the personal information provided for any other purpose. WTC Winnipeg also uses contractual or other means to ensure that third parties protect personal information to a level comparable to that provided by WTC Winnipeg itself.

4.  Safeguards

WTC Winnipeg has in place security safeguards to help protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, modification and disclosure.  We evaluate our security practices on a regular basis to best protect those that use our Services.

5.  Access

Upon request, an individual may request access to his or her personal information maintained by WTC Winnipeg.  Such requests shall be made in writing to WTC Winnipeg and shall contain information sufficient to allow WTC Winnipeg to identify the records.  Please note that an applicant must be able to demonstrate his or her identity in order to receive the requested records.  Individuals are certainly able to challenge or confirm the accuracy or completeness of their information that WTC Winnipeg has on file.

6.  Modifications

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically and without prior notice to you, and any changes will be effective immediately upon the posting of the revised policy on the WTC Winnipeg website.  It is a user’s obligation to review the Privacy Policy found on our website to note any modifications.

7.  Links to Third Party Websites

The WTC Winnipeg website may contain links to other websites.  We do not control or endorse any third party websites.  Your use of such links and any third party websites or services is at your own risk and subject to third party terms of use and conditions.
